What is going on?

So, I've been in the habit of drawing cute widdle sea creatures. I'm not sure how long this will last, but I'm pretty sure if I keep this up, I'll be burping rainbows and sunshine before I know it. But I do need the digital illustration practice. I'm usually not the type to draw such cutesy wootsie things though. But basically I"m on a tangent of drawing sea creatures making symetrical ish heart shapes with teeny heart bubbles. I dunno. Comments and critiques are very welcome!

Cuddles

Coloring in Flash is growing on me. Also, cuttle fish.

Digital Doodlin'

So, as most of you know, I have a doodle blog. Every day, I draw something. I've been at it a little over a month now, and I must say, this is trickier than I thought it would be. But, this little nubbin is from a sketch that I did for yesterday's post. I really need to practice my flash skills so I can become a flash master, and this is what I got.

My Animations, Let Me Show You!

And now for something completely different. Here's my demo reel for animation. It's weird and slightly sad to think that everything I did in school can be summarized in a neat little 1 minute package. Actually, it's maddening, but I digress.

The song is from the soundtrack of one of my favorite movies ever, "Everything is Illluminated." Go see it, it may shed some light on your life. Sometimes even I can't handle my awful jokes.

But here it is for your viewing pleasure, or distaste if you chose.

Well... Now what?

School is done. I mean really done. Like I will never have to write another paper again done. I'm not sure how I feel about this. Actually I do. It's awesome! My time at Massart has been amazing, I couldn't ask for better teachers or classmates. Though I'm going to miss the safety of it's halls, I'm totally pumped to be a big kid, excuse, I mean adult.

Anyway, now that that's out of my system. Here's a lil tid bit of artwork that I created about a year ago. I'm not really great at sewing, but when the need arises, I step up to the challenge. I used to work at a wonderful little art store called Pearl Arts and Crafts, which sadly went out of business this year. HOWEVER, when it was in business it rocked. Well maybe not for the customers, because we hardly had any inventory, but it was great to work there. Especially around Halloween, which is my favorite holiday  B T Dubs. Whoever had the raddest costume won a paid day off. Upon hearing about that most coveted prize, I decided that it would be mine. And so I made... Fozzy.

This costume was hilarious to walk around town in, people would run up to me and give me hugs, and it was great walking into random stores and walking around, not saying a word. Sigh.
So enough of my nostalgia. No 2-d artwork today kiddos, but I hope you like checking out my very first costume I made. :) Maybe I'll wear it to graduation and just substitute the mortar board instead of his fedora? Thoughts?

I Missed This

It feels so nice to work on fun character illustrations again! Time flies when I do these things, for example, I didn't realize it was nearly midnight when I finished this thing. Well, by finished I mean the character herself, I may slap on a background behind her when I feel like working on background stuff.
The Queen of Hearts used to give me nightmares when I was little, and I don't find this version to be as threatening. She strikes me as tiny and angry, but not terrifying in general. I think the White Rabbit is next, though I can't make any promises kiddos!

cat butts re visited

So here's the colored version of 'Millions of Cats' and a vision into my future. I've noticed while flipping through old sketch books, that I have this weird drawing obsession with old people. I love drawing them. A lot. Seriously. As I was coloring this picture, I was watching an episode of Hoarders, and the woman had over 75 cats in her house, guess what she collected. Coincidence, yes.

Cat Butts

In my Children's Literature class, my teacher read us a book called  "Millions of Cats", and the image above popped into my head. It was like a sudden glimpse into my future. And now, because Degree Project is done, and I'm avoiding my other homework, I wanted to color this piece in photoshop. This is the WIP, I always like seeing other people's process work, so hopefully the next post will be the finished piece.

The Wall

It's funny how when you've been working on a project for so long, and can't wait to finish it, that when you're finally at the finish line and have let's say one or two minor things to work on, you kind of lose your steam. Maybe it's just me? Well I'm nearly done, and after adding more credits and a voice over track with the music, I think I'll be just fine. Then I can start working on more fun things, like random little monster sculptures, or good ol' character designing. God, I miss drawing different characters now, I must have drawn thousands of dogs and little kids this semester because of this project.
In other news, I've made a poster that I'm much happier with! Feast your eyes on this little graphic niblet. We'll see what my teacher has to say, but I like it a lot better than my other poster design.
More to come soon. Perhaps a... gasp... Demo Reel?! Stay tuned

On feeling like a pro

I'm pleased to say that my business cards came earlier than expected, and I'm so happy with how they came out. I find that when I talk to my other friends about business cards, that my mind kind of wanders to thinking about "American Psycho", and eggshell white, and then I feel silly.
But they're here, and I'm starting to feel professional. Though, that pro feeling is slightly diminished when I think about degree project and how I need to hunker down and finish it off.

In a way, my cards have inspired in me a new kind of project I wanted to do. I decided "Hey, what's better than a monster on a business card? Why, a monster holding business cards that have monsters on them!" Brilliant. And so, I sculpted the little fella that you see on my cards to hold them. I hope this will dazzle my teachers and people in general, as I thought it to be quite clever. But really, it was mostly an excuse to avoid working on important things like finishing my degree project and writing the script. Which might I just say here, that I would much rather animate and paint frames for a month, than write a script.

Anywho, as my professional fate rests in the hands of a monster, literally, I will be working away on artsy things to come.

Pick a Card, Any Card

So I've been able to design some business cards since completing the animation bit of my Degree Project. However, I'm not too sure how I feel about this particular card. I have a soft spot for monsters, specifically the grumpy kind. I played around with different color combos and what not. Feel free to give me your feed back as to which one of these suckers I should go with.

Times they are a Changin'

What is this? 2 posts in a row? Surely this must be a dream. After having 2, count 'em 2 days off in a row, I've actually been able to work on fun things for myself! Huzzah! I'm okay with how this came out. My photoshop skills are a bit rusty, having not used them for the better part of the year. But here's one of the Alice in Wonderland characters that I said I would paint. I'm a gal of my word I suppose. Though that's starting this post, as clearly I can't seem to keep my promises regarding posting every day. Meh.
So I suppose it's time for you to feast your eyeballs on my measly ocular offering.

More to come soon!

Ooops...

Welp, so much for resolutions and being a top notch blogger and all that. In light of my massive failure as a blogger, here is a massive sketch dump. I'm going to be coloring each Alice character, since it is one of my favorite childhood stories and I recently saw the movie which was beautiful. So I wanted to take a swing at drawing my favorite characters in my style.
My degree project is near completion, and to be honest, it's weird not being able to say 'Oh I can't go on that sweet adventure with you because I have to work on my Degree Project' anymore. So because that mammoth of a project is nearly done, I'll be posting up some concept art, stills, and mayhaps eventually the real deal!

I Solemnly Swear

So I have decided that I'm awful at this blogging thing, and in order to master it mercilessly, I'm going to post on this bad larry every day. (We'll see how long I actually do this, but I'm staying positive.)
Clambake Studios came to Massart today and let us take a little peak at one of their super secret pilots that was pretty darn hilarious. Flash + ridiculous plotlines= Ideal Job.  So I pretty much want to work for them.
I got some great positive feedback for my demo reel, portfolio and sketch book, and now am spewing forth creative energy (which I'm trying to focus on Degree Project.) I'm hoping that once I get that little project out of the way and out of sight, I can do an internship with them.

Onward to artwork. Please enjoy a stale piece of artwork that I found in furthest corner of my dusty desktop portfolio folder. Along with posting every day, I also will do my very best to generate fresh and crispy new artwork for your eyeballs to enjoy.

Porfolio ing

Clambake Studios is coming to Massart on Monday and are doing portfolio reviews. So I decided it would be wise to have some finished character sheets to show them and hopefully woo them into hiring me. It was a wonderful and welcome break from working on my Degree Project.
I forgot how much I really love doing character sheets, it's so enjoyable to see the many faces of a character and discover how they would react to certain emotions.

Also, cats.

Degree Project Progress

So I'm moving right along in my Senior Project, and Have painted probably a minute worth of animation by now. Joy. I'm very pleased with how the characters are moving and how the frames look. I just hope that I can paint all those bad larry's before the due date.

Anywho, enjoy some snippets from my upcoming movie, and a lil pirate character that always seems to come up in my sketch book. I thought I'd draw him in Flash, since Clambake Studios is coming to my school and I don't have much Flash stuff in my portfolio. He may need some tweaking.

Here we go again

Every semester starts off the same way. I always say, 'Okay, this is the semester where I WON'T procrastinate anymore, and stay on top of everything! And this time I mean it!" And every semester it goes horribly wrong. Well so far so go in terms of me keeping up. Degree Project is in full swing and I have the first minute animated and waiting for color. WOO. I'm already a smidge stressed out about this, and I see many an all nighter in my future, along with caffeine induced twitches and twinges while I go blind from my light box.

Please sit back and enjoy my descent into madness.

On a different note, I recently did some logo art for a good friend who is starting a new band which is going to be super famous and successful. Here's the final image!
